Google's Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P Launched

Google has finally unveiled the mid-range Nexus 5X and the star Nexus 6P smartphones in San Francisco. While it has partnered with LG for Nexus 5X, its Nexus 6P partner is Huawei. They will have one big factor in common, their operating systems. Both the phones will be coupled with Google’s another latest release, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

This OS has integrated finger print identification that also happens to be a major feature of Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.
Here are some of the pother features that the phones will be sporting:
  1. Both phones will be having single Nano SIM card slots that will support 4G LTE bands
  2. Huawei’s Nexus 6P will have a 5.7-inch QuanHD AMOLED display. Its pixel density would be 518 pi
  3. This Nexus 6P display will be armed with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection
  4. LG’s Nexus 5X will have a slightly smaller 5.2-inch full HD display, with a pixel density  of 423 pi
  5. The Nexus 5X will be shielded with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
  6. Another feature they share is the Nexus Imprint fingerprint sensors. These are located at the back of the phones. Here, Google has tried to be at par with Apple’s new iPhone, although the iPhone has the sensor located on the front side of the phone. This feature helps the user unlock the phone, authenticate app purchases on the Play Store. Its quite fast too, with the recognition happening under 600ms.

Google Turns Sauve 17

Happy Birthday Google!
Google is celebrating its 17th Birthday. Google loyalists would know that Google doodles commemorating this day have, in the past, appeared on, er.. different dates. Though we all also remember the addictive PiƱata Game Google treated its visitors with on its  15th birthday in 2013.

This year however, the Google Doodle has been designed in a more sober way, reflecting Google’s earlier days.

Guess Google is dawning the simplistic characteristics of its new boss, Mr. Sunder Pichai and we are loving it. Hope they have a game in store for some other big occassion that keeps us hooked again.

BOSS 6.0: India's New Defense Mechanism?

Recently, Microsoft rolled out Windows 10, and the government of India went, “Nay, not anymore.”
A new operating system has been developed by the National Resource Centre for Free/Open Source Software (NRCFOSS) of India at Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Chennai, in collaboration with the Gujrat Technical University (GTU) and the Defence and Research Organization (DRDO) in a bid to form a more robust cybersecurity environment.  Bharat Operating System Solutions or BOSS, is an open source, Linux based operating system (OS). First launched in 2007, the current version of BOSS is 5.0., code named ‘Anokha’. The latest release is code-named ‘Anoop’. Over 150 engineers from across the country had been working on creating this Indian OS. BOSS shares a major feature with the country. It is multilinguistic as it has almost 20 different language support and packages.
It is receiving huge popularity while being promoted as part of #MakeinIndia campaign by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. The ‘Make in India’ campaign certainly has a great logic behind it. When most of the world’s leading organizations are being led by extremely talented Indians, (notably, Satya Nadella CEO, Microsoft, Sunder Pichai CEO, Google, Indra Nooyi Chairperson and CEO of PepsiCo, New Development Bank’s President K V Kamath, Shantanu Narayen CEO, Adobe), why not use home-grown talents for our own betterment.
One of the major benefits of BOSS would be warding off attacks and infiltrations by other countries. Whistle-blower Edward Snowden had warned that India was one of the major targets of intrusion by the U.S. China is already infamous as harnessing hackers to leak out sensitive data from other countries. Even the terrorists today have become quite tech-savvy with new recruits holding high level technical degrees.
Other countries have also used the same route in the past to ward off intrusion threats. North Korea, famous as a sceptic, has the Red Star OS. It is a Linux OS that has more of a MAC appearance and makes use of a modified KDE desktop. Even the general public is prompted to use the same.
While India’s State departments have been asked to switch over to BOSS and bank ATMs would also be upgraded to BOSS aka Linux, individuals can use the OS of their own choices.

A new self-developed OS would certainly yield a lot of benefits. If India is gearing-up to go mostly digital then it better gear up with its own equipment, at least its own operating system.
So, is BOSS 6.0 secure enough? Well, it does seem to be. Given that during its three months long trial it has successfully defended cyber-attacks from various hackers, even the Indian Army’s attacks. It is thus being lauded as a Safe, Secure and Easy-to-Use OS.
But security threats don’t just constitute access through OS; they could also come from applications, network devices, etc.
Yet, something is better than nothing and this something seems really good. Let me know what you think of it?

Happy Birthday Mario!

Mario turns 30!  A game that’s been riding the waves of popularity for decades, Super Mario has already etched its name in video gaming history.  Playing Super Mario Bros., the renowned game from Nintendo Games, has been one of our most wonderful childhood memories and some of us still cling to it. There was a time when video games were simple enough. All we had to do was to just go straight to the finish line, literally. Yet, packed with hurdles galore, they provided full-on entertainment and excitement.
Gaming today seems to have taken a gory road.
Au contraire,  Super Mario Bros. is riddled with hurdles and the only extent of gory here is Mario dropping down a pedestal or getting hit by a fired-up hurdle or a little monster, and blinking out of sight. And still today, it’s absolutely popular. When the game first came out in Japan, it was known as Jumping Man.

It was first released on 13th September in the year 1985. Over the years, the game has also fuelled several re-enactments, parodies, songs, short films, movies, vines and even other trending games like the viral Flappy Bird. There are various editions of Super Mario itself to choose from now, like Super Mario Flash, Super Mario Galaxy, All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros., Super Mario All-Stars, and many more.
Mario’s birthday was celebrated by in Tokyo, where Mario tried to blow a candle amidst live Super Mario Bros legendary music. Nintendo has put up an especially designed page on http://supermario.nintendo.com/ in celebratory gesture. On this site Nintendo also thanks participants of the Let's Super Mario! contest with a special video, where in people had posted videos and art celebrating 30 years of Super Mario Bros.

Google is commemorating Super Mario Brothers’ 30th anniversary by gifting it a special Easter egg on its search page. So, when the keywords “Super Mario Brothers” are typed in, the search yields a brief description of the Super Mario Bros. on the right side of the page. Easter Egg is a blinking button as seen in the video game with a question mark on it.
On clicking the question mark, Super Mario fans get to hear that special cling like the one that comes when Mario hits a coin brick during the game.  Rumour has it that if on hundred clicks, you hear a special music. Although, it didn’t seem to work for me.
The hidden

Lets watch out as Mario, along with his brother Luigi, sets on yet more adventures saving Princess Peach.
